The 5 Daily Essentials

The 5 Daily Essentials

Today is winter solstice, so I want to shed some light on YOU! Here are 5 essentials for moms and dads during the post-partum period. Tips are founded in The Fourth Trimester by Kimberly Ann Johnson and I 100% agree with her.

  1. An Extended Rest Period: Now I know you are probably thinking, yea right ok Emily, but you guys so many other cultures in the world worship this time to rest and restore. Soo lets bring  our energy to jump on this bandwagon and enjoy the slow gentle pace. Dads- if you can take the extra time off work, you’ll need this time to soak in your new life as a father too.

  2. Nourishing Food: This would include any warm foods (perf for winter) such as oats, stewed fruits, cooked veggies, rice and garbanzo beans and meats in moderation.

  3. Loving Touch: Foot massage! Back massage! A Kiss! I don’t know about you but all my faves. Sex must be cleared by your healthcare provider, which typically is around 6 weeks into The Fourth Trimester.

  4. The Presence of Wise Women and spiritual Companionship: This could be your mother, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother, bff, co-worker, neighb, online resource! and your partner. Really, anyone in your life who gives you the positive energy that you need.

  5. Connect with Nature: You know that wave of feeling you have when someone says “A breath of fresh air” well its true. Go for a walk even if it’s around the block or stand outside on your front porch. If the weather is a little too cold or rainy for the day, try sitting by a window while breastfeeding, bottlefeeding or rocking your baby.
