Breathing is magical. The way we breathe impacts our emotional organs, circulatory, nervous and respiratory systems. This past year I learned many types of breathing exercises thanks to my Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training.
So I am sharing one of my fave breath works . It’s Visamavritti!
Visamavritti reduces stress and tension in the body. So yes! perfect during The Fourth Trimester.
Moms and dads you may notice tension in the pelvic floor (mom!), abdominal wall, lower and upper back, shoulders, neck, jaw and third eye (space between your eyebrows). This tension could be built up from the time you found out you were pregnant to now in the Postpartum Period. Holding your baby, adjusting to the birth of motherhood and fatherhood and learning your new duo dynamic between you and your partner can all create tension.
So lets practice!
I invite you to close your eyes and if you have a yoga mat, towel or even a couch cushion have a seat. If you don’t have any of these props no prob. You can practice this anywhere and standing up!
Begin with an inhale of 4 counts and an exhale of 6. Repeat 3x or even longer if you’re loving it. I recommend starting your day off with this breathing exercise and ending your day with it too. Also in times of stress stop take a moment and really, simply just breathe.
