Listen to your Mind + Body

Listen to your Mind + Body

Being mindful is powerful, I think even more powerful than the strength of contractions!!

Ok so I have a story. One time, I took care of a woman in labor. I walked into her room and found her crying. Immediately, I asked her what was wrong. She said she was in pain from the waves of the contractions. I kneeled down next to her, placed my hand on her hand and said ok, it’s ok. You are ok.

And then said to her, let’s see how I can help you get through the contractions.

Her original “birth plan” was to go un-medicated. And she was set on this.

I provided her with counter pressure, guided imagery and emotional support. I told her to listen to her mind + body while each wave of contraction came and went.

These practices helped her for sometime and then she stated the strength of contractions were too intense and wished for an epidural.

After the epidural was placed and she was able to rest, I told her she was so amazing and so strong. She expressed some feelings of discouragement but I told her she was listening to what she needed in the present moment. She was being mindful.

In Labor + Postpartum a lot of the unexpected can happen.  Have you tried mindfulness?! Listening to your body + mind during these precious stages is magical.  I think it’s nice to have birth wishes and postpartum wishes but also feed your mind + body with what you need in the present moment.   xoo
