5 Things Moms Can Expect to Happen in the First Couple Hours of Postpartum for an Uncomplicated Vaginal Delivery

5 Things Moms Can Expect to Happen in the First Couple Hours of Postpartum for an Uncomplicated Vaginal Delivery

  1. Your vaginal bleeding will be monitored v closely. To check the amount of bleeding, we

press down on your uterus (located 2 finger-breaths above or below or at the level of your belly button) We check pretty frequently, approx every 15 min. This typically is uncomfy for moms, Tylenol/Motrin may help!

  2. Your blood pressure, heart + breathing rate, oxygen levels and temp, are also checked frequently, as often as every 15 min depending on the facility you deliver at- protocols may differ

  3. We like to get you up and moving! So we help you walk to the bathroom and want you to use it. Urinating every 2 hours even if you don’t feel the urge is a good routine to get into during the first couple of days, sometimes it takes a little time to train your bladder after the 9ish months of your babe(s) growing on top of it

  4. We will supply you with all the ice packs for your perineum + v big pads + mesh underwear + peri-bottle

  5. You can eat your fav snacks and cheers with some lovely sparkling water!
