More on LH Surge during Postpartum

LH surge is a v reliable indicator that ovulation has occurred. During postpartum your LH surge aka, when you ovulate can be a little unpredictable though

Depending whether you are breast or bottle feeding timing of ovulation can vary greatly!

Mom’s who bottle feed their baby begin ovulating earlier, it could be as early as day 21! of postpartum although the average start time is on day 45

Mom’s who breastfeed, can go up to 6 months without ovulating this is actually considered a form of contraception (birth control) called, Lactational Amenorrhea. To be completely reliable on the method make sure you are feeding every 2-3 hours around the clock, without any form of supplementation up to 6 months - if you have questions about this, talk w your OB/Midwife :)

When you begin to wean your baby off breast LH surge generally occurs 14-30 days after weaning and you ovulate again

Aren’t our bodies amazing!!! And ok I must say a little tricky too esp in this pp period (for many reasons as you know) but! you may ovulate before your first flow of your menstrual cycle ‍so make sure you are using a reliable form of birth control hunnies!!
